LEE COUNTY, Fla.- The mood was somber inside the Sonny’s BBQ on Palm Beach Boulevard on Thursday. Some people who have worked here for, what seems like ages to them, will be unemployed at the end of the day. “I was shocked,” said one customer, “this place has been here for a long time.” The employees found out on Tuesday that Thursday would be their last day on the job. Sonny’s is just one of many businesses closing its doors on Palm Beach Boulevard. “They’re closing everything up on Palm Beach Boulevard here,” said another Sonny’s customer. While some Sonny’s employees are hoping for a transfer to other Sonny’s restaurants in the area, others collected their last paycheck, wondering what to do next. Company headquarters says it closed the restaurant for under qualifying.
