JACKSONVILLE, Fla. (AP) – Authorities say a police officer in Florida has shot a man following a car chase.

Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office Chief Chris Butler said at a news conference on Monday that Officer T.L. Landreville fired several shots after 22-year-old Vernell Bing refused to obey commands to stay in the car. Butler says Bing was shot once in the head. He said he’s on life support but has no brain activity.

Butler says police spotted Bing on Sunday night driving a car used in a shooting in April. Butler says Bing refused to stop.

He says police then pursued the vehicle, which later collided with a patrol car before crashing into a building.

Butler says Bing was black. Landreville’s race was not released by the agency.
