Crash kills 1 in DeSoto County

ARCADIA, Fla. — One man was killed Tuesday morning in a two-car crash near State Road 70 and N.W. Florida Avenue, according to Lt. Gregory Bueno of the Florida Highway Patrol.

FHP officers said Derrius Wolf, 22, of Tampa, died from the injuries he suffered when he crossed the center line on State Road 70 and collided with a 2013 Chevy driven Fredrick Sherman. Wolf was flown to Sarasota Memorial Hospital, where he was pronounced dead, according to FHP.

Sherman’s vehicle flipped over and temporarily blocked the eastbound lane of State Road 70 while Wolf’s vehicle skidded off the road.

Sherman and passenger Mary Sherman were flown to Sarasota Memorial Hospital while his second passenger, Alice Millward, was transported to DeSoto Memorial Hospital with minor injuries.
