MW Horticulture on Thursday morning, ahead of a possible re-inspection by firefighters. Credit: WINK News As of Thursday morning, smoke was rising once again at the MW Horticulture recycling center in Lee County, which has failed fire code inspections and caused headaches for people and firefighters nearby. MW Horticulture in south Fort Myers failed a fire inspection just last week. The San Carlos Park Fire Department says mismanagement of the mulch piles makes it difficult for fire crews to get to the heart of the fires that spark up. The last of numerous fires started on April 10th and burned for days, causing smoke to fill the area and affect local businesses. The owner of the company posted on Facebook that they are not perfect and have made some mistakes but that they have trained staff to mitigate these issues. According to SCPFD, the site will be re-inspected on Thursday afternoon and the re-inspection should be complete by the end of the company’s Friday business hours. Firefighters say the flames that spark up at the mulch piles drain their resources, and that this has gone on for far too long.
