No fun in the sun on Wednesday for a lot of families trying to cool off at a water park, and they’re not happy about it.

Sun Splash Family Water Park in Cape Coral is dealing with mechanical issues and that closed a lot of the park’s attractions.

Bigger kids packed the little kids section of Sun Splash leading parents to leave disappointed and upset.

Long lines are one thing when there are crowds of people waiting to cool off at Sun Splash’s many slides. It’s quite another matter to show up on a hot day and find out only two slides are working.

Connor Prosser was at Sun Splash on Wednesday and got the news most rides were not working. “Unfortunately, a lot of the teenagers and taller kids are flocking to the kids area, which is one of the only open areas and just making it hard for the little ones to play in,” Prosser said.

Prosser said after Camile got knocked over by a big kid he decided to leave the park. Sun Splash gave him a rain check pass to come back and posted a sign warning everyone of its mechanical issues.

Michael Bowen’s son Jacob is visiting for the summer and shared some thoughts with WINK News. “As long as you get to go down a few slides to get to go swimming? You know, we’ll wait in line. It’s all it’s all good,” Bowen said.

However, other people decided it was a better idea to go somewhere else to have their fun in the sun.

“Most of the slides are shut down,” Nass Alrayashi said. “So we’re gonna go to another venture place.”

“We’re gonna go to the beach maybe,” said Ava Miller who’s visiting from Ohio. “So you can go play in the water or go home and swim in the pool in our backyard.”

The people who run Sun Splash said they hope to have everything back up in order by Thursday.
