The area around Duval Street in Cape Coral wants to become a live music destination in Florida. Naturally, drawing a big crowd is enticing because it can lead to big business in Cape Coral. While on Friday, the area is an empty alley, Cape Coral’s first-ever music walk will bring that alley to life. The lay out of what the music walk will look like. CREDIT: WINK News “We’re starting out small, you know, and we hope it’ll grow. We want to do it the second Saturday of every month,” John Giaquinto, the owner of Duval Street, said. And if that happens, it could keep some Cape Coral neighbors in the city. For years, many of them turned out to Fort Myers’ music walk for live entertainment. Giaquinto told WINK News he hopes the event will demonstrate how much fun Cape Coral is. “We just want people to come out and have fun and say, ‘Hey, Cape Coral has something for you to do,'” Giaquinto said. The goal is to eventually expand from two live bands Duval Street. CREDIT: WINK News to a lineup of all different genres. Bill Keister owns Big 8 BBQ, two doors down from Duval Street, he knows what the big draw and live music do for a business like his. “People love live bands, you know, you Merrick next door, they do a band during lunch, all during season,” Keister said. “There’s always a live band in this area every single night.” And although Keister didn’t get a chance to join in for the first event on Saturday, he isn’t getting deterred. “We have a band tomorrow night; we have a trolley coming through,” Keister said. Keister plans to join in, like many other Cape Coral businesses will, for the next one.
