A motorcyclist was killed in a Monday afternoon crash with an SUV on Metro Parkway in south Fort Myers.

According to the Florida Highway Patrol, a 25-year-old man from Bokeelia was driving his motorcycle north on Metro Parkway, approaching the intersection of Crystal Drive around 4:15 p.m. An SUV driven by a 26-year-old Fort Myers woman was stopped in the intersection of southbound Metro Parkway at Crystal Drive, waiting to make a left turn onto eastbound Crystal Drive.

A car driven by a 50-year-old Fort Myers man was stopped on westbound Crystal Drive at a red traffic signal, waiting to turn right onto northbound Metro Parkway. The traffic signal for northbound Metro Parkway changed to red, and the SUV made a left turn while the motorcycle traveled into the intersection against the red traffic signal.

The motorcyclist struck the right side of the SUV and was thrown from his motorcycle, colliding with the car. He sustained critical injuries, was transported to Gulf Coast Medical Center, and later died.

The crash remains under investigation.
