NAPLES, Fla. – The Naples firefighter union wants the fire chief to be removed from his position following two votes of no confidence.

In a letter sent to the Naples city manager and council members Wednesday morning, the union said Chief Stephen McInerny has misled the public and shown poor leadership.

After a heated discussion between council and staff, the city manager is now looking into the allegations.

Chief McInerny tells WINK News he was blindsided.

“They’re entitled to their opinion and if that’s their course of action, then so be it. And nothing was expressed to me prior,” said McInerny. “Certainly would welcome any inquiry, fact finding, that may be necessary and a thorough and fair investigation and the facts will speak for themselves.”

WINK News spoke with union president Adam Nadelman who says the letter speaks for itself. He wants to respect the city manager’s investigation and will cooperate however needed.
