CAPE CORAL, Fla.- Five people were treated for smoke inhalation after an early morning fire at a home on Southeast Santa Barbara Place and Southeast 7th Street.

Three people and two dogs were inside the home at the time of the fire. One of the dogs has been reunited with its owners while the other was given oxygen by fire crews and taken to the vet.

A neighbor said she heard a woman screaming in the middle of the night and when she went outside, she saw the home engulfed in flames.

Two police officers were among those treated for smoke inhalation. One of the officers was also cut while trying to break a window, authorities said.

The fire began somewhere in the kitchen and was ruled to be accidental by the State Fire Marshal. The victims are receiving aid from the Red Cross.
