Lee County candidate’s campaign highlighted by unconventional opinions

FORT MYERS, Fla. – Jon Shudlick is running for Lee County committeeman, a political seat that requires a person reports to his state party.

Shudlick is no newcomer to politics. He was elected mayor of a wealthy Florida city called Ocean Ridge five times and ran unsuccessfully for both U.S. Senate and U.S. Congress.

He is also no stranger to jail cells. He was jailed in 1993 for refusing to pay his ex-wife alimony and was most recently arrested for trying to pick up a woman who was working as an undercover officer. Shudlick said he wishes the situation would’ve ran more smoothly.

“I was on a business trip and they put a little blonde on the side of the road with short shorts on. I admit to it. I wish I would have had an opportunity to meet that girl later on but it just didn’t work out that way,” Shudlick said. “They had me in handcuffs.”

But perhaps most striking, is Shudlick’s unfounded opinions.

For example, he denies that the Holocaust ever happened and insists the John F. Kennedy was killed by the CIA.

Shudlick also writes that the U.S. government orchestrated the attack on the World Trade Center in 2011.

“There’s people in this government that were actually involved and all you have to do is follow the money. It’s always follow the money!” he said.

Shudlick is running against Chris Crowley, a Fort Myers lawyer. Also on the ballot — committeewoman for each county for both Republicans and Democrats.
