ESTERO, Fla. — A deadly vehicle crash shut down Corkscrew Road in both directions east of Wildcat Run Drive for several hours Monday, the Lee County Sheriff’s Office and Florida Highway Patrol said.

One of two women killed, 58-year-old Rhoda Merrill Feinstein of Estero, was a passenger in a 2008 Kia that failed to negotiate a curve going westbound and collided head-on with a 2013 Honda that was traveling eastbound, the sheriff’s office said. Feinstein’s daughter, April Lindsay Feinstein, 33, was the driver of the Kia and was taken to Lee Memorial Hospital with life-threatening injuries.

April Feinstein died at the hospital Thursday, the sheriff’s office said.

The two people in the Honda, Estero residents Carrie Lynn Benson-Martus, 41, and Alexis Gray Martus, 11, were also taken to Lee Memorial. Their injuries aren’t life-threatening.

Sheriff’s Office investigators believe speed was a factor in the wreck, which took place at about 4:30 p.m. Monday.
