Man accused of impersonating officer in Lee County

FORT MYERS, Fla. — A 70-year-old man was arrested Wednesday for allegedly impersonating a law enforcement officer, the Lee County Sheriff’s Office said.

A sheriff’s office watch commander noticed an unmarked silver patrol car with its lights activated and a specialty license plate not typically assigned to law enforcement vehicles. The car, driven by Stephen Greenberg of Holiday, Florida, was equipped with a spotlight, push bars and added antennas, deputies said.

Greenberg drove erratically, prompting other drivers to swerve off the road and nearly causing several crashes during rush hour on Daniels Parkway, according to deputies.

He made an unsafe U-turn at the intersection of International and Brookshire drives through multiple lanes of traffic before the watch commander stopped him, deputies said.

Greenberg is facing charges of reckless driving and impersonating an officer. He was released on bond.
