Flames in Collier brush fire 85 percent contained

Published: Updated:

NAPLES, Fla. The fire that charred approximately 7,230 acres is 85 percent contained, the Florida Forest Service said.

Firefighters will continue working to extinguish the flames that have been burning since March 5 in the Picayune Strand State Forest.

Crews worked to alleviate smoke that might otherwise have affected traffic on Interstate 75.

While lightning and prescribed burns have been ruled out as possibilities, the cause of the fire remains under investigation, according to officials.

No further information was immediately available.
