FORT MYERS, Fla. A 12-year-old boy was hit by a car Monday morning outside Cypress Lake Middle School, the Florida Highway Patrol said.

The child, a student at Cypress Lake Middle School, was taken to HealthPark Medical Center with minor injuries, according to the FHP. The collision occurred just before 9:45 a.m. at the intersection of Cypress Lake Drive and Panther Lane.

Fort Myers resident Marcy Ann Mamae, 65, was stopped at a red light at the intersection in a Kia Rio as the child pressed the button and proceeded through the crosswalk, State troopers said. As the light turned green, she attempted to make a left turn but entered the path of the child.

Mamae was cited with failing to use care towards a pedestrian, according to State troopers.

No further information was immediately available.
