School board member believes position shouldn’t be paid

NAPLES, Fla. Collier County School Board member Ericka Donalds believes board members shouldn’t be paid.

“It’s not right for the taxpayers to pay for something that should be a voluntary position,” Donalds said.

There are 10 states that allow board members to get a salary, and Florida is the highest. Collier County School Board members are paid $39,000.

“The other states that allow a salary are under $10,000,” Donalds said. “Some of those are $2,500 and $2,000.”

Although Donalds doesn’t agree with board members receiving a salary, she does think they should get a per diem rate and be reimbursed for travel.
