CAPE CORAL, Fla. Law enforcement agencies partnered Thursday morning to raise awareness about the dangers of DUI, distracted driving, and driving without rest.

The Cape Coral Police Department held a press conference meant to shed light on the number of driving-related fatalities, according to officials. Members of the Florida Highway Patrol, Lee County Sheriff’s Office and Lee Health Trauma Center also spoke.

Close to 100 people have died so far in 2017 on Lee County roads, officials said. Of these deaths, 24 were alcohol-related, 10 dealt with drugs and four involved distracted drivers.

The event took place at 11 a.m. at police headquarters on 1100 Cultural Park Blvd.
