Photo via Hannah Vogel/WINK Human bones appearing to resemble a skeleton were found Monday morning off U.S. 41, according to the Naples Police Department. Two men getting fishing bait said they saw bones near the Gordon River along U.S. 41, police said. Initial crime scene investigators determined the remains were human. “I was curious to know what was going on,” said Naples resident Carl Steinhoff. “I work in the area inside so it was rather surprising to see here.” The investigation will begin after all evidence is collected. Multiple agencies will also take part including the medical examiner’s office and Florida Gulf Coast University’s forensic unit, according to police. It’s unclear if the remains are male or female, or if it has been deemed suspicious. “It’s a very popular spot for boaters with the marinas back in there,” Steinhoff said. “A lot goes on in there. It’s a great vacation spot for people.” “They will try to put back all the pieces of the puzzle to determine if any of the bones looked like they have been damaged forcefully which would all be part of the investigation,” said Lt. Seth Finman with Naples Police. WINK News reporter Hannah Vogel spoke with police on scene live on Facebook:
