Gaile Anthony, a Fort Myers councilwoman who represents Ward 6, said she would run in the mayoral race next year.

Anthony confirmed to WINK News in a statement that she will run for Mayor Randall “Randy” Henderson’s vacant seat. Henderson, the city’s 61st mayor, began his third mayoral term in November 2017. But he plans to run for congress to take the seat from the outgoing congressman, Francis Rooney, R-19.

Anthony brings several years of experience as a public servant. Most recently, in November 2015, she won the election for Fort Myers Ward 6 seat against Paul Schafer. Anthony said she ran four years ago because the “city was on the verge of greatness.” Now, she wants to continue the “momentum by serving as mayor.”
