Winn-Dixie and Walmart are gearing up to offer COVID-19 vaccine shots across Southwest Florida, and a lot of you are calling and emailing us to ask how you can sign up and what happens if you have any issues with it. Most of you jumped into the process Tuesday, learning as you tried to book. Now we know how it works: With Winn-Dixie and Walmart, you get a confirmation number. Through Walmart, it’s an email, while Winn-Dixie sends a text. Marci Pembroke of Bonita Springs understands how urgent it is to get the vaccine. “I’ve been incarcerated in my own home ever since last March like everybody else.” Pembroke is desperate to break out and see her son, who’s in hospice care in St. Petersburg. “He has lung cancer, and I haven’t seen him since Feb. 22 last year.” Every day without the vaccine, every missed appointment is another missed chance to hold or hug her son. “It’s hard. It’s very hard.” Life started to look a little better on Tuesday when she got an appointment through Winn-Dixie. But she couldn’t find the confirmation number. She didn’t get a text and it didn’t show up on her screen. WINK News asked Winn-Dixie what you should do if you have that problem because the confirmation number is key. Having one makes it easy for you to view, cancel or change your appointment online. Winn-Dixie said if you don’t have one and know when your appointment is, just go and make sure to bring all of your necessary documents. You can also call the Winn-Dixie support line at 866-946-6349. They may have you call the store pharmacy directly. But again, just show up – even if you don’t have your confirmation number. As for Pembroke, you can bet she’ll show up for hers. “I can get on with my life now. You know, I can see my kid.” Walmart said they don’t have a helpline at this time. If you need an appointment, check the Walmart and Winn-Dixie websites every day to see if more appointments open up.
