One person was killed and two others were hurt in a shooting in Pine Manor on Thursday. The Lee County Sheriff’s Office is not talking, but the people who live around Pine Manor are.

The shooting doesn’t surprise them. They say shootings and killings happen way too often and wonder when will they get some extra protection.

Raul Silva was on his way home Thursday night when he saw the all too familiar red and blue flashing lights.

“I come here like at 6 p.m. or 5:30, I see there is somebody laying on the floor, maybe he have gunshot,” said Silva.

The man laying on the ground died of that gunshot wound. Silva said he saw first responders try to save him. He said, “it’s very bad you know. I feel bad, I feel sad.”

Sad doesn’t quite cut it for Britt Lawerence. For her the loss is personal, she knows the cousin of the man who died. “I got a call from a friend at like 3 a.m. and they said I need you to come over right now because my cousin got shot six times in front of his child and died.”

The sheriff said three people got into an argument and that argument turned into a physical fight. It ended when one person pulled out a gun and used it.

“I feel all people here need more protection,” said Silva.

First responders took two more people to the hospital.

The sheriff said the shooter is in custody, but so far there is no official word of an arrest.

Lawrence said, “nobody is kind anymore, everybody is mean, they should be grateful for everything single breath you take and every time you wake up you better tell your loved ones you love them.”

WINK News has pressed the sheriff’s office for more information, including what started the argument and the condition of the people who went to the hospital.

The only answer we got is that the report is not ready.
