A 36-year-old Port Charlotte man has been sentenced to 29 years in federal prison for producing images and videos depicting the sexual abuse of a child.

Robert William Sanchez was also sentenced to a life term of supervised released and ordered to register as a sex offender, according to a news release from the U.S. Attorney’s Office.

Sanchez pleaded guilty in June.

The investigation into Sanchez began in November of 2020 after the minor reported that Sanchez harmed her. She also told authorities he had taken pictures and videos of her.

A search warrant at Sanchez’s home revealed images and videos in his digital camera.

The child was 10 years old at the time of the abuse, the U.S. Attorney’s Office said.

This case was investigated by the Federal Bureau of Investigation, Fort Myers Child Exploitation and Human Trafficking Task Force, and the Charlotte County Sheriff’s Office.
