Juneteenth, observed on June 19th each year since 2021, commemorates the end of slavery in the United States and celebrates African American freedom and achievement.

This day marks when the last enslaved people in Texas learned of their freedom two and a half years after the Emancipation Proclamation was issued.

As Juneteenth is a federal holiday, government offices, city and county offices, banks, post offices and many small businesses will typically be closed.

Some schools, universities and libraries may also observe the holiday with closures or reduced hours.

However, major retailers such as Dunkin’ Donuts, Starbucks, and grocery stores remain open.

It’s always a good idea to check any businesses to confirm their operating hours on Juneteenth.
