Last bands of Debby affect Englewood and its beaches

Giant waves crashed against our shores as the last bands from tropical storm Debby passed through our area.

Wind, waves, and flooding. Englewood and Manasota Key felt the outer effects of Hurricane Debby.

“Then all of a sudden, the water came up, the waves started coming across Middle Beach, and it was very unpassable within minutes, and people were stuck,” said Kurt Altmann, Englewood.

Altmann sent us videos from Sunday of beach road becoming impassable within moments.

“I couldn’t believe how quickly it happened. It happened so fast, and that’s what was the surprising part is how quickly you could become in danger,” he said.

Thankfully, Altmann made it out okay and headed to the beach on Monday, like many other people in Englewood, including Jana from Germany.

“We are happy about and surprised about how good people are prepared for this weather, so it wasn’t a hurricane. It was a storm. That’s good. It was really crazy,” Jana said.
