Florida Power and Light are bracing for the effects of Helene

Published: Updated:

With Hurricane Helene expected to land on Florida’s northern Gulf Coast, Florida Power and Light are bracing for widespread power outages.

Crews are currently cutting and trimming trees and clearing out other vegetation around power lines to limit the number of outages.

FPL has crews stationed in flood-prone areas across the state.

Florencia Olivera, a spokesperson for FPL, said, “Our staging sites and our crews are positioned in all the areas that we expect are going to be largely impacted, including Collier County and others. They’re going to be in position and ready right now. They’re finalizing all their preparations, which means gathering all their equipment, trucks, everything that they may need to start restoring power quickly after the storm.”

FPL said customers should have a backup power source in case power happens to go out in their area.
