Credit: Sun-N-Fun Lagoon Water Park Collier County is considering privatizing the operations of Sun-N-Fun Lagoon Water Park, which is currently closed for major repairs. Repairs to the lazy river, stairs to the water slide and pumps will cost millions. Collier County Commissioners voted this week to issue an invitation to negotiate a lease for the park. Most of the park won’t be up and running until November or later. “Rather than thinking about how we were going to run these pools, we spent time thinking about how to make them look really nice for the public. And we had gotten into the habit of band-aiding things and just making it work good enough to get us open for the summer and have the pools look really nice. And that is not how this can happen again,” said Amy Patterson, Collier County manager. Commissioners agreed to hire a consultant to help with a maintenance plan for all aquatic centers in Collier County. They said the goal is to ensure better long-term management and prevent similar issues in the future.
