BONITA SPRINGS, Fla.- Bonita Springs firefighters say a fire started in the garage of a single family home and they believe it started in the older model recalled Ford Expedition parked inside the garage.

It happened in the 11000 block of McKenna Avenue, near the Bonita Beach Road and Imperial Parkway intersection around 9 p.m. Tuesday night.

Family members say at least one person, their grandfather, was inside the home when the fire started.

According to family members, he heard pops and went into the garage to find very high flames and a lot of smoke. He evacuated the house safely.

Dana Hoenie lives right across the street and is a retired Bonita Springs firefighter. When he saw the flames, his instinct reignited.

Most of the home was destroyed.

Firefighters are working to find out if the home is a total loss.
