CAPE CORAL, Fla.- A truck plowed right through the front door of a tax office Friday, causing serious damage.

The accident happened just after 9 a.m. at the Cedeño Plaza on Del Prado Boulevard, near Pine Island Road.

Arthur Cedeño had just said his final farewell to his father, the longtime owner of the plaza, when he was forced to come assess the damage done to the front of the office.

“We were at his mass, then right afterwards we found out what happened here,” said Cedeño. “We ran over here cause that’s the first thing my dad would’ve done.”

“I was in the store working on the computer when I heard something it sounded like a sonic boom, or an explosion,” said Mark Walker, who works next door.

Jesus Soto owns the tax office. He says while a man went into the Western Union next door, the passenger in the man’s truck tried to park. Soto says the driver hit the gas instead of the brake, sending the truck flying through the front door.

The entire front entrance was destroyed.

“It was real bad, glass all over the place, the cement blocks on the floor of the office, it was pretty well beaten,” said Soto.

Luckily, the office was empty at the time of the crash.

Soto says at the height of tax season, he’ll lose about $500 a day until he can open back up.

“I’ll probably be out of business for at least a week, who knows,” said Soto. “i’m just sad because it’s tax season and this is when I have to make my money.”

Cedeño says accidents happen, and while getting things fixed will be tough, he knows his father is watching over them.

“I just feel maybe my dad is testing us, making sure that we’re taking care of what he left us,” said Cedeño.

No one was hurt in the crash. Cape Coral police are investigating and right now it’s unknown if the driver faces any charges.
