NAPLES, Fla.- If you’re looking to build a new home, it may cost you more starting next month. A new set of building codes was just announced. A meeting on Friday held at Raymond Building Supply focused on educating the building community when it comes to building or remodeling residential homes. The changes to the code will mainly affect energy, meaning how you insulate your home from the windows, to the doors, and the air conditioning. “This change of the code will increase the cost of building a home in Florida with the purposes of having to upgrade the air conditioner. The fact that they’ll have to upgrade the windows to possibly a vinyl insulated window, in the past they use a single aluminum window,” said said Dan Klein with Raymond Building Supply. WINK News is told there has been an increase in the number of building permits pulled recently because people want to get started before these new rules take effect at the end of the month. Other code changes include a greater number of fire access elevators in high-rise buildings. Homes that are built close together will also need to have more fire-resistant walls or sprinklers inside.
