GOLDEN GATE, Fla.- Dozens of people gathered for a service at the government center in Golden Gate Friday morning to honor the victims of September 11. This is the 11th year the community held a ceremony for those who lost their lives 14 years ago. A deputy who attended the ceremony is a retired Port Authority major case detective from New York and now works at the Collier County Courthouse. Corporal Vincent Martino says the tragic events of 9/11 were devastating and he wants everyone to remember why emergency personnel put their lives on the line every day. “The police man, the fireman, military, that are running towards the action, not away from it, and protecting innocent people. And I think we don’t always get it right all the time but we try,” said Martino. A bell ceremony was held to honor all emergency personnel. At the end of the ceremony, 14 doves were released to symbolize the 14th anniversary of the terrorist attacks.
