ORLANDO, Fla. (AP) – Outdoor recess has returned to an Orlando-area grade school near where a king cobra snake escaped almost two weeks ago.

Students at Clarcona Elementary School were allowed Monday to go outside for recess after being forced to stay inside for more than a week.

The school is located near a house where the snake escaped from a cage on owner Mike Kennedy’s property.

Orange County Public Schools officials say grass and trees on the campus have been cut back to deter any hiding by the snake.

Meanwhile, the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission on Monday said it was no longer going to actively search for the cobra.

Wildlife agency officials say they believe the snake is still on Kennedy’s property, and they’re relying on traps set up by Kennedy.
