FORT MYERS, Fla.- The Harry Chapin Food Bank made a special delivery to several Lee County schools Wednesday morning. More than 188,000 school items including pencils, pens, notebooks, and folders were collected during a donation drive back in July at local Publix grocery stores. The supplies were donated to 50 Title 1 schools in Lee County. Teachers and school staff members say they’re very grateful for the generous donations of the community. “This is a wonderful opportunity for all schools, especially for teachers that continuously dip into their own pockets for supplies for the kids,” said Carol Bucher, with Lexington Middle School. More than 30 Publix employees also donated their time by volunteering at the food bank while the supplies were distributed.
