FORT MYERS, Fla.- Florida SouthWestern State College is celebrating a construction milestone for Suncoast Credit Union Arena. The first phases of the pouring of the building’s foundation are underway.

Leaders of both FSW and Suncoast Credit Union, in addition to the FSW basketball coaches, made a lasting (concrete) impression during this celebration.

The 75,000 square foot arena will seat about 3,300 fans. It will be home to the basketball teams, volleyball team, and also host the annual City of Palms Classic basketball tournament in 2016.  The arena will be used for other events as well.

FSW President Dr. Jeff Allbritten says, “in a couple years we’re going to look back and go ‘what’d we do without this because it’s gonna be that centerpiece, the epicenter of cultural complex, athletics here, it’s gonna bring a lot of folks to the campus here and we’re excited about that.”

Kristie Ward, head women’s basketball coach, adds, “through the recruiting process already it’s just lots of excitement because the potential student athletes know and understand they will be the first team in this arena, they’ll be the foundation of the athletic program of women’s basketball so lots of excitement.”

Construction is expected to be complete in October 2016. FSW is doing several fundraising efforts for the $25 million project.
