Cyber attack affects Collier County hospital employees

NAPLES, Fla. – Employee information at North Collier Hospital was breached in a major cyber attack Wednesday, a hospital spokesperson confirmed.

Two of NCH’s computer servers at the Cerner Data Center were compromised, tipping off internal alarms at the Kansas City headquarters, said NCH.

Patients were unaffected by the information breach, hospital spokesperson Debbie Curry said, but NCH employees were notified about the unauthorized activity.

“These two servers contained an employee information database and a medical staff credentialing,” she said.

NCH said there is no evidence information obtained in the attack has been misused.

Back in 2014 local hospitals were victim to a similar cyber attack. Four million people were affected by information breaches at Lehigh Regional Medical Center, Bayfront Health in Charlotte County and Physician’s Regional in Collier County and all affiliated clinics and doctor’s offices.
