TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (AP) – A Tallahassee woman who stabbed her grandson to death two days before his 7th birthday will spend the rest of her life in prison.

Martha White was sentenced Friday to life without parole for the murder of Mason Rhinehart and another 15 years for child abuse.

The Tallahassee Democrat reports White was sentenced after pleading no contest in the case.

White was babysitting the boy and his older brother in August 2014. The brother told deputies he heard Mason plead for mercy while in a locked bathroom with White.

White was found covered in blood a half-mile from the home.

The newspaper reports she had a slight smile on her face Friday when the boy’s parents and surviving brother walked into the courtroom for the sentencing.
