SWAT situation ends peacefully in Fort Myers

FORT MYERS, Fla. – A SWAT team took a man into custody following a stand-off on C Street, located off Martin Luther King Boulevard and Veronica Shoemaker Boulevard.

The suspect, 34-year-old Derrick Walden, was involved in domestic situation and armed with a handgun, authorities said.

Some neighborhood residents were evacuated from their homes for several hours.

They were allowed to return around 3:00 a.m. after the subject of the standoff was taken into police custody.

Fort Myers Police say the SWAT team entered the Walden’s apartment and took him into custody after he fell asleep in the living room.  He now faces charges including Felony Battery, Domestic Violence and Possession of a Firearm by a Convicted Felon.
