(AP) – A group of Cuban migrants made it to South Florida aboard a makeshift sailboat they christened the “Barack Obama.” Local media outlets report the four men and two women made it to Lauderdale-by-the-Sea north of Fort Lauderdale on Monday night. They told reporters they were at sea for nine days. Cathy Crawley, who was vacationing from Texas, told the SunSentinel she saw the migrants jump out of the boat and start “kissing the beach.” Television stations report that one of the women is pregnant. She was taken to a hospital for observation while the other migrants sat on the beach and waited to speak to agents from U.S. Customs and Border Patrol. Under the “wet-foot, dry-foot” policy, Cubans who reach U.S. shores are usually allowed to stay.
