FORT MYERS, Fla. – The Lee County Metropolitan Planning Organization approved the school district’s applications for funding to build sidewalks for three schools. The Lee County school district will submit its application to request funding from the Florida Department of Transportation on Dec. 31. The schools in need of sidewalks are Edison Elementary, Harns Elementary and Middle and Island Coast High School, the district said. The approval of the district’s request does not mean changes will happen immediately. In 2015, some schools had applications submitted but were denied funding. Construction will begin in 2019 for the one school whose sidewalks were approved in March.
