FORT MYERS, Fla. COO Larry Antonucci will succeed Jim Nathan as Lee Health’s president and CEO, the hospital system announced Thursday.

Nathan, 70, is stepping down June 1 but staying on in other capacities until his contract expires in 2019. Lee Health’s board voted 9-1 to carry out Nathan’s wish to make Antonucci his replacement, The News-Press reported.

“It’s a privilege to be named CEO and lead an organization that is closely guided by its commitment to the community and passion to deliver care that improves the quality of people’s lives,” Antonucci said.

Board member Donna Clarke was the lone dissenting vote, The News-Press reported. She expressed concerns about the wording of the motion to promote Antonucci and pointed to lack of clarity about Nathan’s future affiliation with Lee Health.
