Quick-thinking Cape mom saves daughter from drowning

CAPE CORAL, Fla. It was a moment Debra Coram was ready for, but hoped would never happen.

Coram found Athena, her 2-year-old daughter, blue and lifeless on the edge of their pool after she jumped the four-and-a-half foot fence.

“I thought I took enough precautions — I have to do more because she’s too smart for her own good,” Coram said.

Coram immediately jumped into action, relying on her previous CPR training to save her daughter’s life.

“Luckily, I remembered the courses from years and years ago,” she said.

Coram is now recommending that all parents should receive CPR training.

“Life can change in a second,” she said. “I got very blessed that I knew what to do — as opposed to other parents that might not know how to do CPR and things like that. Those thing can save your child’s life.”
