CAPE CORAL, Fla. A swarm of Lee County deputies searching a canal on Chiquita Boulevard caught homeowners off guard Saturday night.

The investigation unfolded from 29th Street to 26th Street with K-9 and diving units on scene.

“We had been in the pool, probably about half an hour, and we had saw a couple of gentleman on the opposite side of the canal,” resident Lacey Blisard said. “They looked like they were looking for something. And they said, ‘Did you check down here?'”

Deputies also went door-to-door, asking people if they’d seen anything suspicious.

“They were just thoroughly looking for something, not necessarily someone,” Blisard said. “There was no sense of rush, like they need to find someone quickly.”

It’s unclear whether deputies found anything or made an arrest during the search.

The reason for the search is currently unknown.
