Commissioners plan to discuss ways to speed up Burnt Store Road project

Published: Updated:

As the population in Lee and Charlotte continues to grow, one of the major roads that connect the two is getting widened to help with the flow of traffic.

The managers of the Burnt Store Road project that runs from Pine Island Road in Cape Coral, all the way to U.S. 41 in Charlotte County are looking at ways to speed up the process to get it complete.

As of now, it’s not expected to be done until 2040. The hold up is the stretch of road from Van Buren to the Charlotte County Line.

The Commissioners say speeding up this process is vital for the safety of individuals that travel the area.

“When you get into those two lane sections of road it actually gets dangerous with a lot of aggressive drivers traveling this burnt store road corridor. So we want to make sure that it’s safe first of all and we want to make sure it’s ready for a hurricane evacuation,” said Brian Hamman, Lee County Commissioner.

The meeting to discuss the process of how to speed up the project will take place Friday night.
