Collier County fatal wreck (FHP)

An Arizona man was killed in a crash in Collier County Friday morning, according to Florida Highway Patrol.

The crash happened around 7:45 a.m. at the intersection of US-41 and Immokalee Road.

The 40-year-old man driving a sedan was traveling westbound on Immokalee Road (CR 836) approaching the intersection of US-41.

At the same time, a semi-truck was driving southbound on US-41 and stopped in the right turn lane at the intersection of Immokalee Road.

The sedan then traveled across the intersection, entered the southbound US-41 travel lane and collided with the left side of the truck’s trailer.

The car went underneath the truck’s trailer and came to final rest within the grass shrubbery at the northwest corner of the intersection in the BB&T Bank parking lot.

The driver of the sedan was pronounced dead on the scene. It is unknown whether or not he was wearing a seatbelt.

The driver of the semi-truck was uninjured and the crash remains under investigation.

The Florida Highway Patrol no longer releases names of crash victims, citing Marsy’s Law.
