Gov. Ron DeSantis spoke in Fort Myers Wednesday at the Florida Department of Health – Lee.

His message: Early treatment saves lives.

DeSantis continued his tour across the state touting the success of monoclonal antibody treatment. “Since we’ve been doing those treatments, we’ve seen a decline in the hospital census for COVID, we’ve seen a decline in the emergency visits for COVID”

However, at Lee Health, their census reached 100% hospital capacity on Monday.

During the news conference, DeSantis invited three people who received the monoclonal antibody treatment at the state-run sites in Southwest Florida. All three feel like it saved them from being hospitalized.

DeSantis continued to promote the vaccine as the first line of defense against the virus.

“I think what we’re seeing is the vaccinations are necessary, not sufficient; you’ve gotta have something on the back end too. You’ve gotta have treatment options,” he added.
