A Southwest Florida brewing company is teaming up with a group of environmentalists to create a new brew.

When most people pour themselves a cold one they’re not usually thinking about helping the environment, but now Jordan Weisberg of Pointe Ybel Brewing Company hopes to change that.

“We live breathe, eat sleep water here; like it’s, it’s everything, it’s what brings people to this area, it’s what supports our business, it’s what you know, what we live in play on every day,” Weisberg said.

The brewery’s newest beer, the Waterkeeper Hefeweizen, is a collaborative effort with the non-profit organization Calusa Waterkeeper.

A dollar from every beer sold will go toward cleaning up our rivers and streams and other bodies of water.

“You’re not just buying something that you love, but you’re buying something that loves a part of your community and is dedicated to that,” said Trisha Botty, executive director for the Calusa Waterkeeper. “When you have a sip of that beer, you think, you know, we’re doing this together.”

Botty said this effort won’t just bring money to the cause, but attention as well, which is so needed.

Weisberg said he’s happy to play even a small role in the effort.

“Making beer is a passion of mine, I’d love to do it. But you know, it’s more fulfilling that I can help people around me and in our community that we can do that and make a difference and more than just making beer,” Weisberg said.

Pointe Ybel Brewing will feature the Waterkeeper Hefeweizen on tap and in four-packs to go.
