A shooting in Golden Gate left one person dead Tuesday evening.

According to the Collier County Sheriff’s Office, the shooting happened at 16th Place Southwest at around 3:50 p.m. Family members of the victim told WINK News their loved one was not the intended target of the shooting.

The victim’s mother was seen distraught and in agony at the scene. She could barely walk and kept repeating herself.

“I can’t leave him…” she said. “I can’t leave him…”

WINK News spoke with an anonymous neighbor who heard the shots and ran outside.

“I asked, ‘What happened?’ I moved closer, and the door was wide open. The young man was laying on the ground, and he had a hole in his forehead, and the mother was shouting and crying in agony because of the pain—she has just lost her son,” the neighbor said.

Investigators combed the scene for several hours, collecting evidence.

No suspect or motive has been identified yet.
