A Punta Gorda man has been found guilty of drug trafficking and other charges after a two-day trial in Charlotte County.

The State Attorney’s Office says Troy Lee McClary Jr., 32, was found guilty of trafficking 28 or more grams of cocaine, possession of cannabis with intent, transportation of drug paraphernalia, driving with a suspended license, and resisting arrest without violence.

McClary Jr. was arrested on August 19, 2020, when Charlotte County Sheriff’s deputies with the narcotics unit were surveilling an area. When deputies went to stop McClary Jr., he got out of his car and ran.

Deputies caught up with him and found $6,754 in his pockets, along with roughly 18 grams of marijuana and two cell phones.

A search of the rental car McClary Jr. ran from revealed a digital scale, 570 grams of marijuana, and 55 grams of cocaine.

McClary Jr. is set to be sentenced on May 31.
