Fort Myers Police responded to a two-vehicle crash on Palm Beach Boulevard and Oasis Way Sunday morning before sunrise.

Officers told WINK News that at least two cars were involved in the crash, and one person was taken to the hospital.

Authorities said one person was arrested.

The crash is under investigation. Traffic is back to normal at the scene after initially shutting down for the investigation.

WINK News reporter Ashley French spoke with the victim, Sammy Santos, who was driving a silver car.

Santos told WINK he was just going to work. Then, his life flashed before his eyes when the crash happened.

“I know there’s a lot of wrecks. I drive down it every day. I see wrecks all the time. You never think it’s going to be you,” Santos said. “If I would’ve turned the steering wheel a little bit, it would have been a straight-on collision. I probably wouldn’t be standing here.”

“Thank God that I’m standing here because I easily could not have been,” said Santos.

Moments after the crash, Santos’s mind focused on one thing.

“The first thing was just worrying about My baby and my wife,” said Santos as he began crying. “That’s really all it is, my baby and my wife because even though she’s only seven months old, I don’t want her to lose her dad early in her life.”

Santos was transported to the hospital after the crash and currently has several bruises on his leg and chest as a result.
