A 21-year-old woman from Sarasota died after a deadly crash involving two cars occurred on State Route 31 and Bermont Road.

The Charlotte County Sheriff’s Office and the Florida Highway Patrol responded to the crash at around 1 a.m. on Wednesday.

According to FHP, a vehicle driven by a 33-year-old male from Miami was traveling west on Bermont Road, approaching the traffic signal for SR-31.

The female driver was traveling south on SR-31, approaching the traffic signal intersection.

The front of the first vehicle collided with the left side of the second vehicle, causing the car containing the 21-year-old to travel off the roadway, collide with a street sign, and overturn into a ditch.

The woman was pronounced dead at the scene.

The male driver was transported to an area hospital to be treated for minor injuries.

FHP continues to investigate which vehicle had the right of way prior to the collision.
