The Fort Myers Police Department responded to a scene on Jacksonville Street at around 11:07 a.m. on Thursday.

The Fort Myers Fire Battalion chief stated that three people were transported to a hospital with burn injuries.

A spokesperson from Southwest Waste sent WINK News a statement:

Around 11 a.m., we had a fire at one of our sites that resulted from a welding incident.  The fire was put out within a matter of seconds but in the process 3 of our employees suffered burn injuries.

We are monitoring the situation and investigating further to figure out exactly how the fire started.  We appreciate the first responders who assisted and acted fast to take care of our team members. We will keep you updated as we have more information.

Neither investigators nor the company have released the names of the three workers. Police did say their injuries were not life-threatening.
