The Cape Coral Police Department responded to gunshots fired during a 4th of July celebration at a residence.

Police responded to a home located on Southwest 47th Street at around 9:30 p.m. on Thursday, where witnesses claimed that gunshots were fired.

Upon arrival at the scene, police reported a large crowd of people outside the home, drinking and setting off fireworks.

Witnesses at the scene told police that Jarrad Daniel Hill, 29, allegedly wanted to shoot his rifle into the air while the fireworks were being launched.

A person at the scene noticed that Hill was intoxicated and took the rifle away from him and tried to place it inside the residence.

According to police, Hill followed the person into the home to reclaim the weapon, causing an argument to ensue.

Police then reported that the person turned away from Hill, prompting Hill to grab and point a black handgun at the person.

A single gunshot was fired; thankfully, the bullet missed the person.

Following an investigation of the scene, police arrested Hill.

Police stated that he resisted arrest while being detained in handcuffs.

Hill is being charged with aggravated assault with a weapon, battery and resisting an officer without violence.

He is being held in the Lee County Jail.
